Buying Better Phase 2

Towards the end of 2010, Green Capital embarked on our Buying Better Project Phase 1 (BB1), details below.

We are please to announce that we have now partnered with NSW Office of Environment and Heritage and Sustainability VictoriaAustralia. to continue our work on sustainability labels into 2012. We are now implementing Buying Better Phase 2 (BB2) to support the acceleration of a more sustainable marketplace for products and services in

We would like to thank everyone who was involved in BB1, and invite anyone with an interest in sustainability labels to take part in the next phase.

Buying Better 2

BB2 will conduct an in-depth investigation of four environmentally significant consumer product areas to establish the most material sustainability issues for each, and generate strategies for communicating that information to consumers – in particular households, and in some cases to business procurers (especially small business) – in the most simple and effective ways.

This in turn will inform government, business and community policies and practices for enabling and promoting a more sustainable marketplace, and will provide a template for use with other products and services.

Get Involved

We are inviting interest to be part of a reference group for this project to advise the process and outputs of BB2. If you are interested in being involved or have any recommendations, please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Green Capital would like to thank the NSW Government Office of Environment and Heritage and Sustainability Victoria for partnering with us on this project.

Buying Better Phase 1

BB1 included extensive review of the state of eco-labelling in Australia, roundtable sessions in Sydney and Melbourne and two surveys of business and consumers. In March this year, we presented the findings and gathered labelling experts and their stakeholders to discuss key issues at our Buying Better event series.

BB1 was self-funded by Green Capital, with the support of ECO-Buy and Connection Research. Green Capital would like to thank ECO-Buy and Connection Research for their support on BB1.
